Hi! I’m new to this site. Recently I’ve taken an interest in Tiger Salamanders, and more specifically, their epigenetic traits. I was wondering if anyone here knows if it possible for a Tiger Salamander to possess the cannibalistic traits while displaying Neoteny? If so that would be fascinating! I doubt the genes would be passed on because it would likely continue to eat larvae throughout its life, but it would still be interesting to find out. If anyone here is able to answer this question, I would very much appreciate it.

I just stumbled across this post and that is so interesting! These are by far one of my favorite animals exactly because of what you said above! I've also been wondering the very same thing and if you ask me, it is possible!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
