Well the new tank is all set up & I love it. I just wish the pet shop guy had told the correct info to start with then I wouldnt have needed to buy a new tank after only 4 months :(.

Ive made a box out of glass to keep my plants in. Its not clear on the pic but there is a mesh over the top of the gravel so they cant eat any or it. I even splashed out & got a new cave which they love. 1 lays on top while the other is inside lol

So what does eveyone think?

What a brilliant idea! Have you thought to having shrimp or guppies in the plant area? A safe haven, and an opportunity for axies to profit from those who are silly enough to escape :p

I did think about adding some fish to add a bit more colour to the tank. Not sure if my aliens are big enough to handle them & wouldnt want ther gills getting nipped at.
I have impressed myself with such a simple design & all it is a hand made glass box lol

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
