This are not albinos - the eyes are black ;-)

Henk - very nice pictures! Did you take the larvae home?

No but the larvae has been kept with another belgian salamander keeper. Currently there are 2 such larvae in fact and they want to try and see if they can rear then and later eventually breed them... Indeed they are not albino but rather white.

I will follow the development from a distance .. I don't have time to do this as well, since it looks like I will have a very good Hynobius year.

This looks like a leucistic larva... I myself have had such one a few years ago. This mutation in my case was in combination with neoteny, this animal hasn't metamorphosed and reached nearly adult's size but unfortunately it has died after ca. 2 years...

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
