Hello, I have 2 separate issues going on with my female axolotl currently. The first is that she is growing increasingly bloated, but she isn’t floating and she’s still acting normal, so I’m not entirely sure why. At first I thought she was pregnant, because she is with a male axie of the same age (I purchased them together and one ended up being a boy, the other a girl.) However, she’s getting bigger and bigger in the belly and I’m getting quite concerned.

The other issue is that Zeppelin (the male) bit off a chunk of her tail.

So first, any ideas as to why she’s so round? And second, how do I treat her tail?

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
