Any advice over feeding earthworms to 6 inch long axolotls? Should they be chopped up first? Should they be "disinfected" in some way first before feeding them? Thanks

Ok, so here's what I do.

I get the worm (from my garden) and put it in a little container with water for about 20mins. If it's a small worm (say about 1 -2 inches), I just feed it whole to my axies. If it's larger, I simply cut it in half and hand feed it to them. Any left over worms, I leave in the container of water in (with a lid!!) and pop it into the fridge until the next day.

Have fun!!:D

Thanks for the advice. I'll broaden their menu :D

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
