Here is a photo of my newly setup and cycled tank. The two pipes entering the tank are for the chiller. 95% of all the plants a real. Opinions?

Because I live in Queensland and its very hot here. The tank got up to 25*C in Winter. Now I am able to keep the tank at a comfortable 18*C all year round.

Nice tank! Lots of dark hides.

Just be warned that axolotls can be bullies, either to each other or your plants. Sometimes if they sway just right, they'll chomp on thinking it's food.

Yeah I've only got one wild type in there at the moment. I'm getting a second axolotl soon. I'll keep it to only a maximum of two.

Thanks everyone for sharing your opinions.

Lovely set up! I'm sure those will be some very happy axolotls.

I don't exactly know the names of all the plants. I'll have to get the list together when I pop into my LFS either today or tomorrow. Yeah I'll hide the pipes someday but at the moment it works.

Hey sorry never got back about the plant list, been so busy haven't had time to get to the LFS. The tank is going great. I had to take some of the plants out because they were making to much of a mess. I just moved them over into my other fish tank. Doesn't look as pretty now but much more practical. I have also tied some Java Moss to all of the logs and am letting that grow in.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
