Hi, everyone! Just introducing myself..
my name is Paisley. I'm at first time axolotl mom living in Colorado.

I've wanted one for years and fate had it that I found some juveniles at a reptile shop after deciding it was time for a new pet.

My lil babe Warchild was a small baby when I got it, it's been about three weeks and it is growing and developing at the proper rate and seems really happy!
I tubbed for the first bit and then moved to a slighter larger container while my tank cycled. Finally put Warchild into my 10gal last night and the babe is super happy!

I have to switch filters because the one I ended up purchasing, although a low flow filter, obviously distressed it. Considering a good sponge one..

Anyway! I'm proud of the progress. A see through three-legged pipsqueak who is now a lovely semi see through four-legged, three-footed pink much longer pipsqueak.. w some very cute freckles developing!!

Sorry for the pic quality. But this is what Warchild looked like last week!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
