I read a post where someone said that their glass isn't see through from the inside so their axies cannot see them. i am thinking of getting another tank anyway but don't want to buy one where my axies cannot see me. they don't come over to the front of the tank much and now I'm starting to think its reflective on the inside and they cannot see out.
please help? all suggestions welcome? x

Stick your finger on the glass by their faces. If they try to eat you, then they can see you. Do they ever beg for food or react to movement in the room?

Stick your head in the tank and see if you can see out.

Sorry I couldn't resist. For you to have one way glass in a fish tank would be crazy expensive.

Mine beg at the glass and follow my finger.

Good luck.

sometimes they look like they've seen my finger but dont tend to come up too much or beg for food yet. maybe they are too young at the mo.
my glass from the front is slightly curved do you think that could make a difference?

They should be able to see you and follow you from day one mine follow whats going on in the room

They'll have no problem seeing out. Mine certainly reacts to things outside the tank at times, but if they're eating enough my guess is they just don't care so much about what's going on.

If you want some proof, find someone who owns oscars and ask to see the "food dance" (other cichlids will do it, but oscars are the most obvious/hilarious I've seen). They certainly know when their feeder is nearby.

yeah mayb thats it, i feed them daily and they seem happy.
need to get a new tank anyway for when they get bigger. might just get one sooner now, or mayb im just boring to them lol

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
