Before I start, I'd like to say that I am new to owning an Axolotl, and I've owned Betta fish and gold fish. I'm eager to get my little axie, and while I do have shrimp for him to eat, I was wondering if they can eat male betta fish and if so, would it count as a treat?

Hello!
No, male betta fish would not make a good treat. They aren't nutritionally complete, will likely be too big, and they would put up a very good fight against the axolotl before dying, harming your axolotl. Axolotls prefer earthworms and frozen bloodworms as opposed to shrimp. How about taking a look at Caudata's Axolotl Diet page, linked below?

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
