My female dobrogicus's have been laying eggs for the last 2-4 weeks and now I am starting to find a couple clumps of eggs anywhere from 5 to about 12 eggs in each clump is this normal? They still lay some singly but there are about 4-6 of these clumps. They are laying thier eggs on egg laying strips because I dont have any live plants in there aquarium. Also a few days ago there were about 140 eggs and now there is about 200-245, that is quite a spurt!

Clumps arent normal for Triturus dobrogicus.

When you say "clumps" are you seeing multiple eggs being laid in the same protective layer or are they being laid right next to eachother? Any possibility of showing us what it looks like?

I noticed that my T. cristatus laid multiple eggs very close together on some java moss in their tank. I wonder if this might be what you are seeing.

I mean she layed 5-12 eggs at once, not singly in one area. Like a little string or clump eggs. I tried taking pics but its not working out.

That's alot of eggs! What determines how many eggs a female will lay?

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
