I am just double checking if this really is a paddletailed newt or not. I am sorry for the horrible photo. I actually bought a pet store newt, which is something i never do. I have had it for over a year and when i bought it the label said "paddle tailed newt". I never trust them anyways because the big chain pet places have everything mislabed and abused. I am just glad i have not seen a newt there since.(it was with little crabs and fish) I never buy aquatics at the chains and this was my exception. The newt is happy for it.

I'm not terribly sure but could be P. labiatus. However,it would help a lot to see a side or above shot to see more than the belly pattern. You can also get rid of the flash reflection if you take the pic from an angle

Either way it couldn't have turned out too bad if you've had it for a year!

that is a paddle-tail (Pachytriton labiatus) nice animal!

Thanks. I was pretty sure it was too. I jsut needed to double check with other people. Here is another bad photograph.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
