I guess if you are afraid of them getting chubby, I would suggest to you that you're feeding them too much. Every other day is often enough. How often are you feeding them?

Hi there! My eastern newts are a little chubby too. I can't feed mine every other day as they live with other newts that like to be fed every day. What I do is to feed them live bloodworms or brines shrimp. I release the live food into the water and they either swim around and he has to work quite hard to ctach them or they disappear into the gravel and he has to root them out. This seems to work very well as he is still getting plenty to eat but doesn't get to pig out!
