Hello! My name is Riley and i have 3 axolotls, Hope, Lumi, and the third i havn’t named just yet. I saw one video on youtube with an axolotl in it and immediately wanted one. Did as much research as i could before i got one and got lucky enough to find some in my area that came with a 40 gallon tank. I’ve started to grow a passion for them and would love to go into breeding someday in the future as a hobby. I’m glad to have found somewhere to go if i ever need advice on anything or a place to just learn new things about newts and amphibians in general. :) I hope everyone has a nice day or night wherever you may be.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
