Hi everyone, i have just bought a T. Verrucosus and i need some help. The guy i bought it from said that house it more or less fully terrestial. And when read the care sheet for it here it said that you can keep them 50/50 and when i search for videos on Youtube all the videos show them being kept full aquatic with only a small piece of land.

So how should i keep mine? I kinda wanna do a large piece of land with a pretty big waterbowl or something, maybe divide the aquarium 30/70 water/land with a piece of glass. Will that work? How do you guys keep yours?

Hi, welcome to the site. :)
I think a lot might depend on what strain they are. Different people have different advice regarding their care in captivity so I can only say what's worked with my group. They are the Clare/Ummi dark form and were given to me as tiny larvae, they're now fully grown adults that breed regularly. They had the choice to leave the water when they morphed and still can if they want, but apart from one that got sick they never have. Here are the threads that tell their story from the beginning. :)

and the Caudata Cuiture caresheet if you haven't already seen it.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
