Dola's

Does any of you feed dola's, the larvae of rose beetles, to it's newts/salamanders? I'm thinking about using them as supplementary food, but I don't know if they're aggressive or anything like that.

Is anyone familiar with the nutritional value of these larvae?

Update: I'm using them as a regular treat for my bigger salamanders, they seem to be very good in nutritional values and are the favourite food source for my animals. As soon as they are put in their tank they're being chased fanatically.

The only difficulty with dola's is that they flee very quickly into the soil.

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
