Hi there,
I'm new to Caudata and relatively new to owning an axolotl!

Here's my boy, toothless, named by my five year old. The whole family love and are fascinated by him!

Hopefully I've attached the photo but new to posting so we'll see! I'm excited to be joining a community who love axolotl's too!

He's currently eating us out of house and home! Lol
I think he only had pellets from where he came from his reaction to his first worm was hilarious ! He's quite the predator now!

He sure is a handsome fella! What did you use to take your photo? The quality is amazing! How old is Toothless?

My photo was just a lucky shot with iPhone! I don't know how old as he was shop bought but he's about 16cm long so well grown. I think he's rather handsome too thank you but obviously biased! I'm amazed at what a cool personality he has, and he's an awesome talking point! All visitors are fascinated! :)

At 16cm he's still got some growing to do - no wonder he's eating so much! He's a beauty - is it definately a he?

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
