Are these Necturus babies?

My friend in Kentucky found these clumps of eggs in pond, and now that they hatched he thinks they are necturus. Are they?

They look like Ambystoma larvae, not sure of species. Necturus larvae have smaller, narrower heads and the bodies are more elongated.

Definitely Ambystoma. Necturus don't really live in ponds, they're usually in rivers, streams, and larger lakes. The eggs would be under rocks in a big cluster of individual eggs, usually guarded by the mother.

Also agree they're ambystomatids. Head is way too broad for Necturus. I have some baby Necturus cf beyeri right now I'm rearing. Might be able to take a pic so you can see comparison.

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
