Hi

I have a melanoid axolotl for like 4-5 months and he used to eat normally, but the past 5 days i feed him the quickly move away from the food, its already couple of days he dont eat. im scared that he might died because of starvation. i tried to change the food type from earthworms, shrimps and pellet but he keeps moving away from any food i gave and i noticed the gills looks like wrinkles. now i fridge him hoping that it will slow down his metabolism while i find help

Don't panic just yet. 5 or 6 days of not eating won't hurt your guy a bit. Sometimes they lose their appetite for months. Don't panic, they'll come around eventually.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
