Hi everyone, my name is Rob, I am brand new to the site. I dont have any salamanders or newts at the moment but Im hoping to start up soon. Does anyone have red backed salamanders and has anyone ever successfully bred them in captivity? I am fascinated by how little seems to be known about them.

Hey Rob, funny you should ask about Red Backs. I have some, and just put them down for brumation. I think getting them to breed is a long shot, but worth a try. I do believe that they have been bred in captivity in the past.
They are active and interesting little hunters. They are especially active at night, after I have misted and fed them. They skillfully climb branches and plants, looking for bean beetles and fruit flies to zap.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
