Hey all,

I'm new to this forum and not American, so sorry for my english.

I have a question regarding my four year old Axie. About a week ago, I noticed this wound in his right rear leg.

I'm not sure what happened to him, I suspect he cut it open on one of the pieces of lead holding down the plants in the aquarium:

I recently bought new ones, but before I had other plants but I've never seen this before.

What can I do best?
It's been a week, and apart from a slightly smaller appetite, I haven't seen any weird behaviour. Perhaps he's a little bit more timid, but not something worrying. He's using his leg as if there is no problem and seems to have no real big problem with it. Nonetheless, due to the severity of the wound, I'm slightly worried.
Oh btw, here's my buddy in better times:

Any tips?

Thanks!
Jeff

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
