Hi, I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Jon, I live in Pennsylvania and have been keeping fish primarily for about a decade or so. I have a 5 year old son who has recently become obsessed with the gfp axolotls. I currently have a 20-gallon cycled tank waiting for the axolotls and figured I would do as much research possible before looking to buy my son's first real pets. This form has been a great resource so far and seems to be full of friendly people. Hard to come across that combination these days. Just wanted to say hi to everybody.

Welcome! Post some pics once your axie(s) arrive in the tank :)

Will do. The hardest part seems to be finding somebody who is selling these. Once I do I plan to buy them ASAP

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
