the people before me who owned my salamander fed her mealwormds and crickets but i was researching and found mealworms are bad for salamanders. but i heard the earthworms are a lot better for them but no one around me sells earth worms and its too cold to go looking for them now, all i could find are red wigglers and i was worndering if those are okay to feed to my salamander. secondly how would i feed these worms to my salamander shes about 5.5 inches long.

Red wigglers are usually Eisenia fetida and are a good food for salamanders and newts if your newt will eat them. They have will exude a bad smelling liquid when cut, salamanders will often eat them and then spit them out. If yours spits them out keep trying, they will often get used to it after awhile. I feed these to several species of newts and havn't had any problems. If your salamander is around 5-6 inches it should not have trouble eating small red worms or larger worms cut in half.

You might also be able to find mini crawlers at a fishing shop near you too. These are another good option but will probably have to be cut in half.

Speckles, go to walmart and pick up some bait worms. I've used them for years with no problems.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
