Welcome to the forum ..

White splodges on axolotl usually mean a fungal infection, but as it seems not to have changed it may be something else. Would you be able to post a picture of the axolotl so we may get a better idea of what it may be. Also the other thing that is worth checking is the water quality, i.e ammonia, nitrate and nitrite readings as they can be very sensitive to water problems. If you don't have the relevent tests ( they are very useful to have...but avoid the 5 in one strips) at the moment take a sample to your local pet shop/ aquatic shop and they will usually happilt check it for you. Write the numbers down as it may sound like gobbly gook!!! lets us know and we may be able to go on from there with ideas.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
