Yes axolotls can regurgitate their food. They do so mainly in two situations. In cold temperatures below 10 degree celsius, their digestion is slowed down and axies may regurgitate their food to prevent decomposition from setting in while the food is still sitting in the belly. Axies may also regurgitate the food when the food itself is not fresh, too large or undigestible. There is no need to worry.

Yes, axies can poop many times. That is normal and is a good sign as it suggests the axie has been eating well and has a patent alimentary tract (no constipation/impaction).

I recommend you try feeding live blackworms. I find them most widely accepted by ill axies or axies being fridged. They are nutritious and the wriggly movement also entices the axie to feed.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
