I have little white worms on/in the sand of my adult triturus dobrogicus tank. They are about .5 inches at the longest. They have a little dark filiment like thing at the end. Are these thread worms? Are they something I should be concerned about? I have a couple larvae in a different tank, should I let them lose on them? Could they be parasites? I do regular tank cleanings so it cant be from lack of care.

They look a little bit like hydra. Could the "filament" be a cluster of tentacles? Do you have access to a microscope (perhaps a bio teacher at your school could help you look at these closely)?

Even a properly-cleaned tank will crop up with pond life, so don't panic.

I am almost 99% sure they arent hydra's. I think they are some kind of fly larvae. Should I move some to my larvae tank for food?

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
