Back when I worked in a pet store, we would get things like crayfish and random tadpoles(or whatever they were) in with our feeder fish.

This guy came in one day and I ended up taking him home, mainly because I was worried he'd get eaten by the giant koi we had in the tank, but I never got to see him change into whatever he was going to be(I gave him to a regular that had more room for him).

Anyway, anyone have any idea what this is? I'm curious if it just ended up being a bullfrog, but I was secretly hoping it would be a salamander... I'm sure I'm wrong.

Bullfrog seems like a good guess. It is certainly a frog. All salamander larvae have external gills - most of them look like miniature axolotls, more or less.

That's what I figured! Thanks for the reply.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
