I bought this guy a few months back and he was sold to me as titled. But the black coloring on his face has since.. disappeared? I'll be posting a side by side. I'd love to get an ID on this one, since I've been keeping humidity quite high since the care sheets on Asian toads are a bit different than Common american toads.

So when I bought him he looked like this: https://i.redd.it/vcbzraz7bd431.jpg

And he now looks like this: https://i.redd.it/lnydddpabd431.jpg

The white crest around his eyes used to be black. I know they can change colours, but I thought that was super drastic. Any ideas?

He also took quite a fall today from my hands... Was wondering if he'll be okay. No signs of broken limbs, hopps around fine, but is a really picky eater so I won't know if he will deteriorate overtime from the fall.

Now that's weird. Hopefully someone who knows more about Asian toad species can chime in.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
