Hi axolotl friends,

My name is Annie, I live in New Zealand. I just bought myself my very first axolotl called Nemo. He/she is 3 months old, too early to tell what what sex it is. My dad many years ago had them and totally fell inlove with them, 20+ years later I buy myself one. Brought Nemo home and started to feed him/her.
But now he will not eat  I have tried everything ARGH! :(
I think they are the most weirest but most wonderful creature in the world!

Hi Annie,

Welcome to the site!

Nemo may just need a few days to get used to a new environment.

If concerned (there's been many a time when my axolotls have made me rip my hair out in frustration, too), please feel free to post to the axolotl help section of the forum. Unlike our axolotls, we don't bite! ;)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
