Hello, I'm going to buy some tiger salamanders soon, and I have been wondering if its okay to get one store bought, and order one online. My parents are recommending this because they don't want to have a dead salamander on their doorstep, but I've read stories on here on how store bought salamanders aren't always in the best shape. Thanks.

First and foremost, check your local and state laws. Ambystomids are against the law to own as pets in quite a few states. Quite a few other states do not permit Ambystomids to be imported to or from the state.

As for shop versus online order and animal health- With the exception of Ambystoma mexicanum, all Ambystomids are wild caught. In my opinion, the risks associated with the animal's health are identical.

Others may have differing opinions.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
