I adopted 2 axolotls about 4 weeks ago from a reptile expo nearby. Both babies are just growing in their back legs and little toes on them (so cute). One of the babies looks like a wild type but I am a bit confused about the other. It has a pale yellow look to it and its gills are bright yellow/gold. Will he/she stay this colors? It looks pretty neat but I was confused since most of the albino and pale colored axies I have seen have pink/red gills. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

My baby albinos and goldens all have pale gills too. If the eyes are pale I'd say it'l be a golden albino :)

Pretty pretty :) Yea, he/she has pale eyes :) I am so excited to see these babies grow up and see how their colors turn out. I really like the gold coloring :D

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
