Hi everyone! I'm Terra from Oregon, I'm new to axolotls and aquatic animals in general and plan on getting my first one in the next couple of months. Originally I was just going to set up a small tank for cherry shrimp and moss balls but someone mentioned axolotls and after reading up on them for days I'm in love.

I'm joining mostly to have somewhere to go for help while raising my axolotl and to get ideas for it's tank. With any luck I'll be able to find an Axolotl for sale here as well!

Excited to meet you all and looking forward to learning more about these weird little cave dragons! :D

(Oh and if anyone has a 20 gallon long tank set up I'd love to see a photo!:p)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
