Hi all

A few days ago i noticed a small dent in my axolotls fin but couldn't tell what it was so i dismissed it as something he always had, however now it looks like it's from a cut or something and it's gotten bigger and looks like it's rotting? There are no other fish or axolotls in his tank so it could be from a scrape from one of the ornaments but i was wondering how i can treat it ? I've read about salt baths to stop injuries getting infected but that's all i know of. The water parameters for ammonia nitrites and nitrates are shown in the pictures and the temperature has been about 17c. His behaviour has been the same still quite active and eating every day but any advice would be very helpful as i don't want this getting any worse.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
