Hey Everyone,

I am a new axolotl owner and have a question regarding the amount I should be feeding. I am aware that they should be fed once every other day; I fed him for the first time yesterday, using frozen bloodworm cubes. But when I put the cube in the water, it disperses into several little bloodworms, which my axie likes to eat individually from my finger or from right in front of it. He ate two yesterday, is this sufficient? I know he obviously won't be eating a full cube at this age, but how many individual bloodworms is recommended per feeding?

Thanks!
Ian

At that size, I'd feed it daily.

Two small bloodworms isn't sufficient. I would consider switching to earthworms. These are one of the most nutritionally complete foods available. If you have blackworms available in your area, even better! They're small, aquatic, and nutritionally similar to earthworms.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
