My experience with T.shanjing so far

Just would like to share my experience with my salamanders and show off some pictures. I have created a small tank for them with several hides consisting of cork bark and terracotta pot pieces, some artificial plants, some moss and small terracotta bowls.

Have had them a couple of months now. They are roughly a total length of 60 mm with striking colours and round little bellies.

I have been feeding them a diet of pin head crickets, chopped earthworm, live white worm and live blood worm. Did try frozen blood worm as that all that was available they showed little interest.

I have tried tweezers feeding them with no interest anyone with any tips?

They seem more active in the evening. I have been finding them on the damp side of the tank. Two can be regularly found under cork in the dry section. The biggest one was most likely morphed first spends a lot of his time between the tiny artificial plants.

Just sharing my observations and looking see anyone else findings.

Update cleaned them out this evening and fed them. Checked on them and caught them being really active on the damp side.

Getting bigger with plenty of crickets and chopped earth worms.

Sad news
My friend was watching my shanjing last night while I was watching the hobbit. Didn't put the lid back on and shanjing escaped so far recovered two out of the four.

Very beautiful animals, I'm looking for a couple of shanjing too...

That's bad! Did you hurt him?

Did you find the other two tylos? If not the best of luck I hope they turn up unharmed

Terrible. Had a similar happening with some kaiseri years ago. Hope you find the other 2.

Such a shame they were lovely looking specimens, were they 3cm or 6cm?
Something positive from this experience is that you will only let something like this happen once!
I know I've learnt this lesson, luckily I found my escapees pretty quickly and all survived

Lil mumble

Moved my little shanjing into a small 12 litre tank so he doesn't have to go hunt to far food. Healthy appetite eating small crickets and white worms giving him a little round belly. The tank is open top but i have placed a fine mesh hopefully escape proof. The little tank has a peat free soil substrate mixture. With some cork and terrocatta pot to provide hiding places. I have small shallow terrocatta bowl which he seems very aquatic recently.

He is daily sprayed also.

Sean is that white bit just the flash from your camera? it just looks a bit.... odd lol
