Hi, everyone.
My name is Madison and one of my precious axolotls Asher has recently gotten a pretty bad abrasion on one of his back legs. I noticed this about two days ago and was instantly worried. He’ll be quarantined in about two days once the quarantine tank is done cycling. At the start I noticed a tiny bit of blood in the sand and a ‘semi-mangled’ leg. It’s looking a bit better now but I’ve noticed it a bit red and less mangled. Now it looks like skin is peeling. Should I be worried? Is this normal?? Does it mean he’s healing? I’ve tried to attach images. I keep my tank at about 64-67 Fahrenheit. I do week and a half-ly water changes and add water conditioner. Please let me know. I’m really stressed and having mini anxiety attacks.
Thanks,
Madison

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
