I have 2 juvenile Marbled Newts that I'm cooling with ice packs during these hot summer months, but I think it's gotten too cold; I was wondering if a temperature of 50-60 degrees during the summer, which has made the newts slighly lethargic is harmful. The newts are acting likes it's winter; they were eating lots before but as it gets into the midnineties outside and 50 in their tank they arent'!
Thanks

that's not too cold for them, if you want them a little more active then raise the temperature a little. but don't let it got to mid nineties!

I can't see any reason to keep it that cold. I'm keeping my tanks in the low 70's during the summer months and they're doing just fine.

I didn't realize it was that cold until the newts stopped coming out and eating a lot, I raised the temperature and they're eating again.
Thanks

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
