Hey guys, my axolotl that i have had for about 2 months now has developed a red blister like object in the shape of a ball on his front right foot. I had fridged him for 2 days with no improvement, although he seemed as though he was shedding?? can anyone help he with what this might be? also if axolotls shed or not?

Thanks guys,

Could you post a picture of the blister?

Also, to help us get a better idea of what could have caused this -
What is his tank set up like? (size, substrate, filtration, lighting, decor, plants etc)
Diet?
Anything sharp he could have rubbed on?
Water parameters? (Temperature, ammonia/nitrite/nitrate readings)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
