Pacman eating a bufos americanus

I think it's definitely unnecessary BUT the range of C.cornuta overlaps with Bufo marinus, known to be incredibly toxic.
We know that marinus is immune to it's own toxins so that allows for cannibalism.
Since Ceratophrys is an anuran eating genus, it could be that they have developed a resistance to bufotoxins.
that being said, feeding them toads is unscientific, perhaps comparing the growth rate/behaviour of Ceratophrys eating mice with and without bufotoxins on them would be a better study.
 
Old thread, but do you know if they did study immunity to bufotoxins? If they made a paper on it, please post a link!
 
Not to mention there are a lot of frog to frog transferable diseases like chytrid for example... feeding your frog toads is a good way to spread illness, plus don't you at least find it a little creepy? they're so closely related if you cared for one you would think you would care for the other species.

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
