Hello again, quick question!

I am the proud mother of about 20 juvenile axolotls, about 3-4 cm long, with quickly developing hind leg buds.

The dilemma...

I am visiting my parents for a week, and they live about three hours south.

Any advice on how to make the car ride most comfortable for the little guys?

Any help is greatly appreciated, Thank you

Hi Gamachii,

Simply the best way to make the ride comfortable for them is not to take them.

If you can find someone who could come in and take care of them, I believe this would be your best option, i'm sure you have considered this already.

In New Zealand we have things called "Chilly Bins" or "Eskies" in Australia they are portable coolers for picnics and the such like. If you pre-cooled one before your trip it would help to keep them at a stable temp.

Good Luck

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
