For a long time Betta Fish have been put in below mimimum sized cages for the rest of their lives!
Then of course... Pet stores profit from it!
On Petco's website they say that the "miminum" tank size is 1/4 gallon! See for yourself if you don't believe me! https://www.petco.com/content/petco...ervices/resource-center/caresheets/betta.html
Why are Betta's mistreated? My theory is that people THINK betta fish make good beginner pets because they have been mislead by common betta fish mistreatment and see them and think "OH THIS PERSON HAS THEM IN A 1 MILLILETER TANK! THAT SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD IDEA! OH AND THE PEOPLE AT THE PET STORE SAY THAT 1/4 GALLON IS FINE!" (1 day later) "OH HI DEAD FISHY!"
Anyways see ya later.

the thing that bugs me the most are these DIY moron posts on Pinterest about putting bettas in mason jars and other ridiculous setups.

My betta, Pirate, lives happily in a 10g all to himself. Bettas are one of my favorite fish to keep.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
