I got my axolotl from a pet store, his gills are all bent forward which means he is stressed right? Just wondering how long does it take for it to destress and his gills lay back flat?
First you should identify the source of his stress. If it is from being in a new home/tank, then he should adjust in a few days or so. Otherwise it could be diet or temperature. Some pet stores are not great with axolotl husbandry and keep them in water that is too warm, and feed pellets which may not have complete nutritional value.
Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation
Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
