Hi everyone, I am fully aware it is normal for newts to shed and eat their skin afterwards, but my lady newt has been shedding an awful lot… she is growing fast as well so I was wondering if it is related… the water levels are correct… can anyone shine some light on this? do newts shed more often when growing? thank you!!

btw she is a Alpine newt and I know water temperature can cause stress but it is at a constant 15 C

Yes, they shed more often when growing faster. I wouldn't worry about it unless it's flaking off in small pieces.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
