I was offered 3 greater sirens and their setup from someone looking for a biology teacher to donate them to. I love having a mini zoo in my classroom so I jumped on it. I picked them up today. I couldn't get the filter working despite help from half the department so I'm hoping they will be fine in the morning.

Otherwise, I have 3 fire bellied toads, 1 bearded dragon, and a tarantula in the classroom. Plus a sun conure, a cat, a dog, and chickens at home.

I'm looking forward to learning more about them, maybe even some formal studying of them. I still need some substrate for them. They are on glass with Lily pad rhizomes as cover in a huge tank right now. I still need to measure it but it makes my dragons 36 incher look tiny.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
