Hynobius dunni

I finally made it over to Henk's to collect my 5 subadult H. dunni. This first pic is of one of the smaller two. It is quite dark, even though I upped the brightness on photoshop, but it was taken on a digital vid. camera inside Henk's newt shed, where there was not enough natural light for my SLR. I have more pics taken on the SLR being developed as I type, and I'll post as soon as I get them digitised (is that a word???).
They have settled into their tank so well that I rarely see them (I have had them about a week) and only do so by actively searching for them. Henk said that the larger three may breed this spring so fingers crossed...

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
