Cloaca rubbing

My new P. chinesis is clinging to the elodea plant and sliding its cloaca on the plant. I searched and didn't find any info. Is he just marking his territory or what?

I had a female first, and yesterday I added this one which I suspect is a male.

Sounds to me like egg laying behaviour. Sometimes they do this without actually laying eggs, but you should check.

Ummmm...wow...I didn't see anything that looked like an egg...not that I know what they look like.

I just got the newt that was doing this....and I thought it was a MALE???

Unless, you are sure it´s a male, i think egg laying practice is a possibility. It could also be that the newt is defecating...does it raise the tail?
The worst scenario would probably be some sort of parasite that is causing cloacal irritation, hopefully not.

No tail raising. It must be female. I think the cloaca on both of my newts are different from eachother...so one MUST be male and one MUST be female. We will have to wait and see.

If you post a picture of the cloaca and tail i´m sure we´ll be able to give you a hand in identifying their sex.

For some reason my camera won't focus on the newts to get a clear picture of their cloacas. So no picture.

I saw the new newt rubbing on the plant again toda. No eggs though...unless they are super small. What should I be looking for?
