Tiger Salamander & Axolotl (Ambystoma tigrinum, A. mavortium spp, etc.) The Tiger Salamanders and the Axolotl are so popular amongst hobbyists that they have been given their own topic. If you're particularly interested in the Axolotl, there is a large section of the forum devoted mainly to beginner Axolotl enthusiasts (not this topic).

Question Western Tiger Larvae Feeding/Tank Habitat

I have the possibility of getting a Western Barred Tiger Salamander (Ambystoma mavortium?) being shipped overnight to me next week. I am waiting on the breeder to get back with me on what stage larvae it will be so I can have the correct food/tank habitat ready for it. I have included a picture of my current tank cycling right now. I will be testing the water in a few days. I have some frozen blood worms ready as backup as well. I was looking at ordering maybe some daphnia and/or vinegar eels just in case its a small larvae. Any advice for the larval stage would be welcome, I'm currently trying to comb through all the threads but there is a lot to read! TIA

I have some driftwood in there I plan to add a piece of slate to so that he can crawl out when heís ready. I still donít know how young heís going to be when I get him. Iíve read it can take them months to morph.

Exclamation Re: Western Tiger Larvae Feeding/Tank Habitat

Current tank parameters:

pH 7.0
kH 40
gH 30
NO2 0
NO3 20
Temp- 66.7 F

Added some slate to balance the kH, using reptisafe to make the water clean. Any input appreciated.

Thanks so much! I will be reading today, my first larvae should be here Tuesday. He looks like he won't be in the larval stage much longer though.

Question Re: Western Tiger Larvae Feeding/Tank Habitat

Update:

Heís already surfacing for air and hangs around the top, so I might start transitioning him.
