We've had our axolotl tank set up about 1 month and everything's been fine up until now. We've just switched from (too small) gravel to large pebbles in the bottom of the tank and after doing our first water change since the change discovered nitrate levels have shot up.
Did a 20% water change yesterday evening, checked levels today and test indicates water change needed. NO2 (mg/l) is 10 and NO3 (mg/l) is 100.
Also just discovered today tiny silver wormy things floating around top of the water. They are metalic looking and approx 3mm long and very thin. fished them all out with a net but what are they and where have they come from?
Axolotl seems completly fine though - absoloutly no changes in her behaviour or appetite.
Please help - we're worried.
