This may seem like a really silly question, but the breeding pair I will be buying juvies from in a few weeks are golden albino and leucistic. Is there any chance of the babies being dark or having dark spots? I know nothing about their genealogy other than that.

I would hate to buy one thinking it is light-coloured only to have it turn dark later on... my partner has a phobia of eels and he has said a dark-coloured axie is out of the question as it will spook him out a bit too much, which is the last thing I want (I personally don't see the resemblance, but it's not just about me!)

Many thanks for your advice in advance!

It depends entirely on the recessive genes that are hidden. If the albino carries a leucistic gene or the leucy carries albino you'll get some of each.

In any case you'll get at least 50% wildtypes, possibly more, even 100%.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
