Approximately when will a juvenile terrestrial Chinese fire belly newt go aquatic? I've had one that is about 2 inches and is showing no signs of interest in water. I've had it since December.
Around a full year is to be expected. This does defer between individuals. Slow introduction to water and caution is necessary when you first begin. Its up to your newt to tell you when it is ready, if you offer swallow water and it avoids the water then it is not ready. If it enters the water and eagerly eats in the water, slowly (over the course of several weeks) raise the water level.
Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation
Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
