Hello, I'm a frequent lurker. I've been carefully reading and researching this site and forum for info on the proper care of Axolotls. Ive been interested in them for at least 4 years.
My employee gave me a gorgeous 55gal, 4ft long tank. I am slowly designing and setting it up over the next few months to prepare it for leucistic and golden axolotls. I'm in absolutely no rush, these aren't an ignorant impulse buy. I know they require special care and a rather expensive tank chiller, so I am happy to save up and outfit my tank one paycheck at a time.

That's awesome, I love it when people who bought axolotl from me are as prepare as you do . Nothing worry me more than not knowing which heaven I'm sending my babies to?

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
